More than 40 PRO triathletes have already confirmed their participation in the Gran Canaria event on April 26th in Anfi del Mar.

The international triathlon Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria adds a new world star for its ninth edition this April 26th in Anfi del Mar with the German triathlete Andreas Dreitz, already confirmed for this 2025. The Gran Canaria event, the only world triathlon on the island, has already accumulated more than 40 professional participants to open the European season in the warm municipality of Mogán.

In love with the Canary Islands and a great connoisseur of this event, which is part of his usual annual calendar and a fetish event for professional triathletes, Andi Dreitz has not missed the call of Gran Canaria and joins the parade of stars on 26 April, which repeats as the event with the most PROs on the Challenge circuit and one of those that brings together the most professionals of this sport on the starting line.

Andi Dreitz is preparing on the island to kick off the season in Europe, which will be a successful year with coveted podium finishes in 2024. The triathlete from Lichtenfels took third place at Iroman Malasya, Ironman Chattanooga and silver at Ironman 70.3 Hradec Králové. Dreitz is a triathlon icon with a brilliant track record that includes the title of champion at Challenge Roth 2019 and second in 2018, champion of the Ironman 70.3 European Championship and gold also at Ironman Emilia – Romagna, champion of Ironman 70.3 Jönköpimg, Challenge Denmark, and Ironman 70.3 Rügen, among other trophies.

The 36-year-old athlete knows that the Canary Islands brings him luck, as he already tasted victory in one of the first Challenge editions in the archipelago, in this case in the Challenge Fuerteventura 2014 where he stopped the stopwatch as the fastest in the middle distance.

Dreitz once again raises expectations in the middle distance, a challenge of 1.9 kilometres swim, 90 kilometres bike and 21 kilometres run, where he will be one of the rivals to beat, in a start line with big names confirmed as the British triathlete Jonathan Brownlee or Sam Wordley; the Spanish Sergio Lopez, Diego Martin, Gonzalo Fuentes, Joan Reixarch, Ander Segurola; the French triathlete Corentin Chouvelon; or the number two in Portugal, Joao Pereira, who remains faithful to this international opening in Gran Canaria.

The young triathlete from South Africa Matt Kaminer, who fights from the national number 8; the top 10 in the Netherlands, Heleen Moes; the number one in Portugal, Vanessa Pereira; as well as Julia Skala, the local PRO Zaira Lorenzo, the British Ben Akin, and the 2024 champion Marta Lagownik, among others, have also confirmed their place.

In addition to the PRO triathletes, the short distance is just a few days away from closing ranks with the most frenetic modality of the circuit, which completes a 1.5 kilometre swim, 40 kilometre bike and 10 kilometre run.

The Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria enters the final stretch with just a few days to go before the registration deadline, which has already surpassed the number of professionals from around twenty different nationalities from all over the world who took part in last year’s edition.

Throughout its history in the Canary Islands, the Challenge has welcomed triathlon icons such as Patrick Lange, Sam Laidlow, Aaron Royle, Florian Angert, Pieter Heemeryck, Andy Dreitz, Anne Haug, Jan Frodeno, Alistair Brownlee, Emma Pallant, Nicola Spirig, Lisa Norden, Pabla Dapena, Iván Raña, Sara Pérez Sala or Judith Corachán among other greats.
